Topic: Named Entity Recognition (Text Processing)

My notes from the the book - "Text Mining: Predictive Methods for Analyzing Unstructured Information"

Named Entity Recognition is a type of phrase finding. It is focused on noun phrase finding - specifically the recognition of particular types of proper noun phrases such as persons, organizations, locations, money, date, times, etc.
Its used for Information Extraction - for e.g. for summarizing documents.
Typically, one performs Phrase recognition as a first step. Then the noun phrases are then further classified into classes such as I-person, B-location, B-person, etc.
